Introduction
This website includes most of the materials used in my research of the development of water sanitation in the 19th century. I was assigned to research a topic related to the Victorian Era of England as our English class was in the process of reading Dickens' Oliver Twist. Water sanitation was a major issue in the 19th century as water sources contaminated by sewage played a major role in spreading cholera epidemics and other diseases. It was difficult to achieve reformation, however, as there were many who believed that infection was caused by impure air not impure water.
